Dedicated One-On-One Emotional Support for Veterans and Their Families

A nonclinical, telephonic, goal-setting program designed to help warriors and family members plan individualized paths toward personal growth.

WWP Talk is a free program that connects veterans, their spouses, and other family members with a dedicated and empathetic listener.

In addition to emotional support and goal-setting guidance, WWP Talk can provide resources for things like anger management, couples counseling, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), other military therapies, and even financial readiness. WWP Talk Partners also equip you with tools to help you further develop coping and life management skills.

Though the program is not a crisis helpline, it offers a safe and non-judgmental space where participants can discuss personal issues or concerns. WWP Talk can be beneficial as a standalone program, but it is not meant to replace the veteran clinical treatment, therapy, or counseling you may receive. Many participants find WWP Talk’s S.M.A.R.T. goal-setting model a great addition to counseling and other therapies.

Frequently Asked Questions

Since 2013, WWP Talk has provided a listening ear and a safe, judgment-free outlet for warriors and their family members. Our team is committed to you and will collaborate to set goals aimed at processing and overcoming challenges. During participation, you’ll build resilience, develop coping skills, reduce stress levels, and achieve goals to improve your quality of life. Many participating in the program also develop improved relationships with friends and loved ones. Our goal-setting model is beneficial while participating in the program and can be applied to daily life situations well after you have completed the program.

As you move through your journey and your needs change or if something unexpected arises, WWP Talk Partners can connect you to other Wounded Warrior Project® (WWP) programs and service or external resources for veterans and active-duty service members. WWP Talk takes great pride in providing individualized resources for veterans and their families.

You’ll start with an initial call where you’ll be paired with a specially trained WWP Talk Partner to support your emotional needs. Each week, your WWP Talk Partner will call you on the same pre-established day and time, and every call lasts about 20 minutes. Together, you will engage in goal-focused conversations to help empower you to increase resilience, self-efficacy, quality of life, and psychological well-being.

Our highly trained WWP Talk Partners come from different backgrounds. Still, all have the professional experience and education to build rapport and meet warriors and their family members wherever they are on their journey. Talk Partners continuously hone their skills through customized and comprehensive training programs to provide the best support and encouragement.

S.M.A.R.T. goals should help you work toward resiliency and psychological well-being. Resiliency is the ability to thrive and cope despite challenges. Psychological well-being is healthy emotional and social functioning. Together, resiliency and psychological well-being can help you find an improved quality of life.

S.M.A.R.T. goal setting is a well-established tool that helps you plan and achieve your goals.

Specific - What exactly will you accomplish?
Measurable - How will you know when you have reached your goal?
Attainable - Is this goal realistic with effort & commitment?
Realistic - Why is the goal important to you in your life right now?
Time-Bound - When will you achieve this goal?

S.M.A.R.T. goal setting may sound overwhelming, but a WWP Talk Partner can help you break down your goal into smaller, actionable steps and help you learn to overcome obstacles and challenges that may stand in your way of achieving your goals.
